HISTORY

Perry Park Ranch has a rich history that includes stints as a stagecoach stop, a hotel, and a working ranch established in 1870.

Ranch history

Perry Park Ranch has taken on many different iterations over the years, and we value the history behind this magical place. The old barn remains the heart of the Ranch, surrounded by the beautiful scenery and mountains that our equestrian community will enjoy for years to come.

RANCH HISTORY

In the mid-1800s, the land that is now Perry Park Ranch was the site of an early stagecoach stop on the Denver to Colorado Springs route.

The construction of a rail line serving the area brought more changes and a new era for Perry Park Ranch. In response to an increase in travelers, several hotels were built near what is now Lake Wauconda. The area around the ranch became a popular location for conventions and parties, with guests from Denver arriving by stagecoach from the Greenland and Larkspur rail depots. The rail line also brought John Perry, a businessman who developed the first rail line from Kansas City to Denver and was captivated by the beauty of the area. In the 1870s, the area that is now Perry Park Ranch became part of Perry’s 4000-acre working ranch.

The Perry Park Ranch neighborhood is what remains of Perry’s former operations and with steady development, the community has grown to more than 750 families. The hotel that was once located near our barn burned down in the 1920s, but its fireplace was salvaged and a new bunkhouse built around it. After many renovations, the bunkhouse now serves as a home for our barn manager and her family, complete with the original fireplace. John Perry’s original ranch house has also been updated and is still in use as the home of a neighbor.
